FORT SHAFTER — Maj. Detrick Ousby, 4th Signal Center, Pacific Network Operations and Security Center, 516th Sig. Brigade, 311th Sig. Command, was honored at the Hawaii Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association’s luncheon, here, Sept. 13.

Ousby was named as the Young AFCEA of the Month.

Award nominees must be 39 years old or younger and be an Hawaii Chapter member who has contributed to the information technology and communications industries, the community and the organization.

“I was honored and humbled to be selected as the Young AFCEA of the Month,” Ousby said. “I gained a new appreciation of what AFCEA does in helping to shape the future of information technology for our military. I’m now a member of AFCEA and encourage fellow comrades and Soldiers to join every chance I get.”

Natalie Young-Aranita, vice president of awards, Hawaii Chapter, described AFCEA as an international organization of academic, civilian, government and military professionals who work in the information technology, communications and engineering fields.

Ousby was selected, in part, for having dedicated himself to supporting the initiative to drive membership and participation of Young AFCEAs in previous AFCEA TechNet Asia Pacific conferences and expositions.

“This speaks volumes to Ousby’s professionalism and demonstrated technical proficiency in the fields of information technology, network operations and engineering,” said Lt. Col. Kenneth Lawrence, director, 4th Pacific-Theater Network Operations and Security Center.
