SCHOFIELD BARRACKS — During the recent exercise Ulchi Freedom Guardian, or UFG, in the Republic of Korea, the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command proved to be a valuable resource.

Led by Brig. Gen. James Dickinson, commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Tedd Pritchard, senior enlisted leader, noncommissioned officers in the 94th AAMDC successfully accomplished the organization’s mission and built up the region’s security and partnership capacity through annual combined training.

The 94th AAMDC stood up the Combined Air and Missile Defense Operating Cell during UFG, which strengthened relations with South Korean counterparts by allowing the countries to fight side by side in a more unified mission.

“This allows us to do what we do best, which is to integrate theater air and missile defense,” said Staff Sgt. Justin Thorp, 94th AAMDC.

The 94th AAMDC conducts multiple exercises a year within the U.S. Pacific Command area of operations, ensuring integrated air and missile defense in the theater. The mission of the 94th AAMDC also stretches beyond the realm of air defense. Subject matter experts within the command, like Sgt. 1st Class Stephen Leist, battle captain, 94th AAMDC, specialize in gathering and dissemination strategic information.

Leist worked with other branches of the military throughout the exercise and specialized in briefing senior personnel on the latest simulated weapon, Tactical Ballistic Missile, and launches from North Korea.

“Our NCOs served the U.S. Army-Pacific’s motto, ‘One Team,’ extremely well,” Pritchard said. “Learning the ways of other services is tough, and even tougher is understanding how our partners operate. Whether it was planning, coordinating, integrating or synchronizing, they made it happen in a joint and combined theater air and missile defense operating environment.”
