WASHINGTON — The Department of Defense has announced the death of a Soldier who was killed in action while deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

2nd Lt. Clovis Tim Ray, 34, of San Antonio, died March 15 in the Kunar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked a dismounted patrol with an improvised explosive device.

Ray was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

Ray’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (posthumous), Purple Heart (posthumous), two Army Commendation Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal (posthumous), Combat Infantry Badge and Parachutist Badge.
