America Recycles Day is a nationally recognized community-driven awareness initiative dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

Since its inception in 1997, communities across the country have organized events for America Recycles Day to promote recycling awareness, commitment and action. Last year, 2 million people celebrated recycling at more than 2,000 events across the nation on America Recycles Day.

This year, U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii has partnered with the Exchange to debut new recycling containers at post exchanges and shoppettes. The Exchange will give the first 25 customers a reusable bag and host a drawing for prizes promoting green products.

The Exchange will also give away prizes of reusable lunch containers and bags.

USAG-HI’s Recycling Program will set up an information table at the Schofield Barracks Exchange from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Nov. 15.

(Editor’s Note: Williams is DPW’s solid waste and recycling program manager.)
