Traffic Report, June 6, 2014

 

Traffic Report lists closed roads, limited routes, construction detours and noise advisories received by press time from Army and Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) sources. Motorists in affected areas are advised to use caution, to observe all signs and traffic personnel and to expect delays.

Today

H-1 Westbound — HDOT advises Oahu motorists of two right lane closures on the H-1 Freeway Pearl City Viaduct in the westbound direction, between the Pearl City/Waimalu Off-Ramp (Exit 10) and the Waipahu Off-Ramp (Exit 8B), 11 a.m.-2 p.m., for movements of heavy construction equipment.

Westbound motorists are advised to travel safely through work zones, adjust their commute times and expect delays #WZAM.  Kamehameha Highway and Moanalua Road will be available as alternate routes.

 

East Range — An East Range retrofit project, which would’ve affected the water supply for all of the buildings on East Range, from the wash rack to Bldg. 6065, was cancelled and is rescheduled. There will be no disruption of water.

 

Road Closure — A full road closure of Schofield Barracks’ Lyman Road (between Mellichamp and Trimble roads) continues until July 2. Local access to South Range and the motor pool will be permitted via Lyman from the Mellichamp side. No walkway will be maintained along Lyman Road.

 

HDOT Weekend Traffic Update, June 6-8

Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  
All projects are weather permitting.

— H-1 FREEWAY —

1) AIRPORT (NIGHT/WEEKEND WORK)
Left lane closures on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between the Hickam AFB/Naval Base Off-Ramp (Exit 15) and Airport Off-Ramp (Exit 16) from 9 p.m., Friday night, June 6, through 9 p.m., Sunday night, June 9, for viaduct deck repairs.

Airport Viaduct improvements include concrete deck replacements, expansion joint repairs, and pavement restriping. Work is located between the Pearl Harbor Interchange and the Keehi Interchange.

2) WAIMALU TO WAIPAHU (NIGHT/WEEKEND WORK)
Two left lanes closed on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction between the Pearl City/Waimalu Off-Ramp (Exit 10) and the Waipahu Off-Ramp (Exit 8B) from 11 p.m., Saturday night June 7, through 12 noon, Sunday, June 8, for road resurfacing.

Improvements for the PM Contraflow include highway deck repairs and road widening from Waimalu to Waikele. An extra lane will be added from the Waimalu On-Ramp to the Waipahu Off-Ramp and from the H-1/H-2 Split to the Waikele Off-Ramp.

3) PEARL CITY (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Left lane closure on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction between the Kamehameha Highway Overpass and the Waiawa Road Overpass at the H-1/H-2 Merge on Sunday, June 8, through Friday, June 13, from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for the rail project.

— KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY —

1) PEARL HARBOR (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Lane closure on Kamehameha Highway in both directions between Makalapa Road/Radford Drive and the H-1 Freeway on Sunday, June 8, through Thursday, June 12, from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., for soil testing.

— NIMITZ HIGHWAY —

1) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Multiple lane closures on Nimitz Highway in both directions between Pacific Street and Punchbowl Street on Sunday night, June 8, through Friday morning, June 12, from  9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., for soil testing.

2) HONOLULU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Lane closures on Nimitz Highway in both directions between Alakawa Street and Smith Street on Sunday, June 8, from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., for soil testing.

— ALA MOANA BOULEVARD —

1) KAKAAKO (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

NIGHT WORK:
·        Lane closure on Ala Moana Boulevard in the westbound direction between Kamakee Street and Queen Street, on Sunday, June 8, through Friday morning, June 13, from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., for utility installations.

— VINEYARD BOULEVARD —

1) HONOLULU (NIGHT/WEEKEND WORK)
Right lane closed on the Vineyard Boulevard On-Ramp in the eastbound direction between the Pali Highway Overpass and Ward Avenue Overpass on Sunday, June 8, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for electrical work.

— VALKENBURGH STREET —

1) PEARL HARBOR (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)
Lane closures on Valkenburgh Street in both directions between Bougainville Drive and Paine Circle on Sunday, June 8, through Thursday, June 12, from 8:30 p.m. to  4 a.m. nightly, for soil testing.

7 / Saturday

Power Outage at  FS Flats — DPW has requesting an emergency power outage, 10 a.m.-noon, for repairs. To be safe and complete this task in a timely manner, the high voltage team needs to de-energize the circuit which effects the following facilities on Ft. Shafter Flats: 1535, 1575, 1585, 1598, 1599, 1604, 1605, Funston Housing and Nan Inc Trailer.

 

9 / Monday

Park Place — A maintenance and repair project of a duct line from manholes MH-60 (next to Glennan Road, Bldg. 689) to MH-004 (Quad F parking lot) projects will require a parking lot closure next to Bldg. 689 and partial closure of the parking lot next to Quad F until June 18.

 

10 / Tuesday

Kunia Gate — There will be a 24-hour road closure on Wright Avenue exiting out of Wheeler from today through July 7. The work will be done in two phases.

•Phase 1 will be working on the Kunia Gate exit-bound lane on Wright Avenue through June 13.

•Phase 2 will be working on the Kunia Gate inbound lanes on Wright Avenue from June 16-July 7.

Vehicles from Lyman Gate, Schofield, will be contra flowed to the exit-bound lane to enter Wheeler. All vehicles exiting WAAF will be detoured to Kawamura Gate.

 

12 / Thursday

Make a Wright — There will be a 24-hour road closure on Wright Avenue exiting out of Wheeler Army Airfield through July 7 for the installation of
denial barriers and spike strips project.  Phase 1 will be working on the Kunia Gate exit-bound lane on Wright  until the June 13. Phase 2  will be working on the Kunia Gate inbound lanes on Wright, June 16-July 7.  Vehicles from Lyman Gate, Schofield Barracks, will be contra flowed to the exit bound lane to enter Wheeler. All vehicles exiting Wheeler Army Air Field will be detoured to the Kawamura Gate.

 

14 / Saturday

Lane Closures — They take placeat Trimble and Carpenter intersection, Schofield Barracks, in order to perform traffic signal modifications. An open lane will always be open in all directions during construction. Lane closures will be in effect from June 14 to July 11. Work hours are weekdays, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and weekends, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. All lanes will be covered with steel plates and reopen after working hours.

 

16 / Monday

Less Funston — From now until June 20, one lane of Funston Road will be closed. The entrance to Ponciano Drive and the parking lot adjacent to Takata Field will be closed. Contractor work hours are 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

 

23 / Monday

Last Phase — Lane control will be implemented along Shafter’s Rice Street, between Herian Place and the Rice Street Bridge/Stream, 7 a.m.-5 p.m., during the final phase of underground utility installation.

 

More Funston — One lane of Fort Shafter’s Funston Road will be closed. The parking lot adjacent to Takata Field will remain closed. Contractor work hours are 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Motorists are advised to expect delays. Work is expected to conclude June 27.

 

30 / Monday

Takata Field — A contractor will be installing telecomm duct lines on Fort Shafter’s Takata Field. The parking lot adjacent to the field will remain closed.

 

Ongoing

 

Speed Bumps — A full road closure of Schofield’s Leilehua Avenue at a portion near Kline and a portion near Baldwin begins; it’s scheduled to finish June 23. June 24-July 17 will see one more full road closure fronting Bldg. 645.

 

Road Closed — There will be full road closures at Fort Shafter Flats’ Loop and Annex roads for utility and flood mitigation structures installation. Loop Road will be closed in both directions, from the Loop and Stream roads intersection to just west of the gate for Bldg. X1508.

The primary detour for Loop Road will be Mokumoa Street. Annex Road will be closed in both directions, from the Loop and Stream Road intersection to the intersection of Signal Street and Stream Road.

Closures for both Loop and Annex roads will be through Feb. 28, 2015.
