SCHOFIELD BARRACKS — Sen. Mazie K. Hirono takes an aerial tour over Oahu aboard a Black Hawk with Maj. Gen. Charles Flynn, commander, 25th Infantry Division. Hirono discussed the readiness, challenges and capabilities of the division, and visited the Jungle Operations Training Center, July 1.
“In our country’s Rebalance to the Asia-Pacific, the strategic value of the 25th Infantry Division was made clear,” said Hirono, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “The opportunities to witness firsthand the Tropic Lightning Academy’s Jungle Operation Training Center and engage with senior division leaders gave me a deeper appreciation of the specialized training provided to our soldiers in order for our Army to be regionally engaged and globally responsive. As the Army continues to be affected by sequester and the recent SPEA news, I will continue to stress the important role the 25th Infantry Division plays in protecting our nation’s interests.”
