Kilauea Military Camp
News Release

As many know, Kilauea Military Camp has been closed since early May this year due to Kilauea Volcano’s summit seismic activity within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. That activity has subsided during the past few weeks, so we are now in the planning process for recovery and reopening of our facilities.

The U. S. Geological Survey has reduced the eruption and threat level; therefore, the National Park Service has targeted Sept. 22 as the reopening of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. KMC is working toward that goal as well.

A post-event assessment of KMC property is nearly completed. We are happy to report minimal damage to our historic facilities and lodging units. KMC staff are in the process of prompt cleanup of camp buildings and grounds, and fresh resupply to retail outlets and Food & Beverage operations.

The U. S. Army Garrison-Hawaii commander, the director of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, and the KMC director and management/employee team have all worked diligently through this difficult time to ensure the safety of our guests and the well-being of our valuable employees and families. All are now carefully planning a bright future toward our reopening and the business of providing legendary Morale, Welfare, and Recreation to all service members, their families and authorized patrons.

As it is with Lower Puna, KMC will become stronger as a result of this experience, and will re-emerge soon, better than before. KMC is humbled and grateful for the outstanding support provided by the U. S. Army’s Installation Management Command, U. S. Army Garrison-Hawaii, and Pohakuloa Training Center during this challenging time.

Again, KMC will reopen on Sept. 22. We hope this allows our patrons time to plan reservations and make travel arrangements. We look forward to your return visit to Kilauea Military Camp.
