Michael F. Wong named new chief, Environmental Branch

FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii — Michael F. Wong has been selected as Honolulu District’s new Chief, Environmental Branch, Programs and Project Management Division. Wong previously held the job of Chief, Civil Works Technical Branch in the Engineering and Construction Division at Honolulu District.

Most recently Wong served in challenging developmental assignments as the Acting Deputy Chief of Engineering and Construction Division, and Acting Deputy Chief, Programs and Project Management Division in Honolulu District.

Wong began his career of nearly 29 years as an engineering intern at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) where he worked for 15 years before joining Honolulu District’s Civil Works Technical Branch in 2004. During his early years with the District he provided environmental guidance and expertise for Honolulu District’s Earth Day and World Water Monitoring Day activities.

In 2006, Wong was a technical lead for the State of Hawaii Dam Break Studies that were implemented as a result of the Ka Loko Dam breach on the island of Kauai. In support of the U.S. Army’s relocation project from Seoul to Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, Wong was instrumental in providing guidance for ongoing drainage design and flood damage reduction efforts.

Wong holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from UH-Manoa. Wong completed USACE Leadership Development Program Level 3 in 2014 and the U.S. Army’s Advanced Civilian Education System Course (CES) in 2016.

Wong is a Licensed Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of Hawaii.
