Hawaii’s Mixed Masters win Army Ten-Miler

A mixed masters active duty team from Hawaii, made up of Soldiers 40 years and older, raced to victory for their age division at the annual Army Ten-Miler on an unseasonably hot October day, Sunday. A total of 35,000 runners took part in the race, which begins at the Pentagon, then winds over the Potomac and past the National Mall, before returning to the Defense Department headquarters.

Chronic pain and the over-prescribing of opioids are major issues in the Army. Forty-five percent of Soldiers and 50 percent of veterans suffer from pain on a regular basis. One of the issues is that prescription opioids are really not that effective for managing chronic non-cancer pain, but are often used at the tip of the spear for pain management.

U.S. Army Health Clinic-Schofield prepares for the storm to come

Picture this: The wind is howling as debris becomes high-speed projectiles that penetrate the body upon impact. Trees are toppling over, and significant structure damage occurs within Schofield Barracks due to the category four hurricane sweeping over Oahu. The health clinic, here, is destroyed and staffs are forced to relocate to the open fields of Area X-Ray.

The tents that housed all of the medical lifesaving equipment were already set up and ready to go as the clinical staff stood by to receive an unknown number of patients with varying degrees of injuries during this recent mass casualty, or MASCAL exercise.

By its end, one thing was certain: The staff at USAHC-SB is ready.
